The licence is free; the deployment is not

SuiteCRM's pricing conversation has to start with a distinction that trips up almost every buyer: the software costs nothing, and the CRM costs something.

The software half is unambiguous. SuiteCRM is open source, free to download and run, with unlimited users, every module included and no feature restrictions. There is no community edition holding back the good parts — a fork of SugarCRM Community Edition, actively maintained for over a decade, and complete.

For a 50-person company, that is a genuinely radical proposition. The same headcount on Salesforce or Dynamics runs to tens of thousands of pounds a year. On SuiteCRM the licence line is zero, permanently.

What costs money is everything around it.

The four line items

Line item Price Who needs it
Software licence £0 Everyone
Managed hosting From £50/mo Anyone without a sysadmin
Standard Support £1,200/yr (10 hrs) Teams without in-house skills
SuiteASSURED From £3,350/yr Enterprises with legal review
Quick Start implementation From £2,520 one-time Most non-trivial deployments

The hosting figure deserves emphasis because it is the strongest value on the page. £50 a month, per deployment, for unlimited users — with security, updates and backups managed. Most SaaS CRMs charge more than that for two seats. A 40-person sales organisation running fully managed SuiteCRM pays £600 a year in hosting, which is roughly what a single Salesforce Enterprise licence costs.

That structural difference — priced per deployment rather than per seat — is the entire economic argument for SuiteCRM, and it grows more compelling with every user added.

Where the money actually goes

Support is sold in thin allowances. Standard Support is £1,200 a year for ten hours, or £120 per hour. That is a reasonable rate for expert help and a small quantity of it. During a data migration, a version upgrade or a difficult integration, ten hours is a morning's work. Treat it as a safety net rather than a substitute for internal capability, and assume you will either build skills in-house or retain a partner.

SuiteASSURED is the enterprise price. From £3,350 a year, it wraps warranty, indemnity and legal protections around the open-source software, with ten care hours included. Small businesses can ignore it. Organisations where procurement or legal review open-source usage generally cannot — and for those buyers, SuiteASSURED is the actual cost of SuiteCRM, which reframes it from "free CRM" to "£3,350+ CRM with unlimited users". Still competitive at scale, but a different conversation than the licence suggests.

Implementation starts at £2,520 for a Quick Start engagement, quoted separately from hosting and support. Combine all three and a realistic first-year enterprise deployment is comfortably four figures before any custom development.

The cost that never appears on an invoice

Self-hosting SuiteCRM is free in licence terms and expensive in attention. It is a substantial PHP application: server provisioning, PHP and database version management, scheduled jobs, mail configuration, backups, upgrade testing and security patching are all yours.

Organisations with a competent sysadmin absorb this comfortably and get an unlimited-user CRM for the cost of a virtual machine. Organisations without one tend to discover the gap at the worst moment — mid-upgrade, or after a vulnerability disclosure.

The £50/month managed hosting exists precisely to remove this, and for most buyers it is the correct choice. Paying £600 a year to make server administration someone else's problem is not a close call when the alternative is unplanned engineering time.

A note on currency

All SuiteCRM pricing is published in GBP. Buyers outside the UK take on exchange-rate exposure across multi-year commitments, and the effective cost of hosting and SuiteASSURED moves with the currency. Minor at £50 a month; more relevant against a £3,350 annual assurance package.

Who should and should not buy this

SuiteCRM fits organisations with many CRM users and constrained budgets — 30, 50, 200 people where per-seat SaaS pricing becomes punitive. It also fits teams that need deep customisation and data ownership, and public-sector or regulated buyers who require on-premise deployment. Managed hosting at £50/month for unlimited users is the standout offer in this market segment.

It fits badly for small teams wanting polish out of the box: a five-person company will get a better daily experience from Pipedrive or HubSpot's free tier for less total effort, because SuiteCRM's economics only start to dominate at scale. It also fits badly for teams with no technical capability and no partner budget — free software with no one to run it is not a saving.

What the pricing page doesn't show

  • Free software is not a free CRM. SuiteCRM is a substantial PHP application requiring server administration, upgrades, backups and security patching — the licence costs nothing and the operations cost real staff time.
  • Support hours are sold in small allowances. Standard Support is £1,200 a year for ten hours, which works out to £120 an hour and evaporates quickly during a migration or a difficult upgrade.
  • SuiteASSURED at £3,350+ is the tier most enterprises actually need, because it carries warranty and indemnity rather than just help. Organisations whose legal or procurement teams review open-source use are effectively buying this, not the free licence.
  • Implementation from £2,520 is quoted separately from both hosting and support, so a realistic first-year enterprise setup combines three line items and lands in four figures before any customisation.
  • Pricing is published in GBP. Buyers outside the UK carry currency exposure on a multi-year commitment, and the hosted entry price shifts with the exchange rate.

Frequently asked questions

Is SuiteCRM genuinely free?
The software is, completely — unlimited users, every module, no feature gates, no seat counting. It is a fork of SugarCRM Community Edition and has been actively maintained as open source for over a decade. What costs money is hosting it, supporting it and insuring it.
What does hosted SuiteCRM cost?
From £50 a month for fully managed hosting with security, updates and backups handled. For an unlimited-user CRM that is exceptional value — most SaaS competitors would charge that for two seats. The entry price is per deployment, not per user, which is the fundamental structural difference.
Why is SuiteCRM cheap when Salesforce is not?
Because it does not charge per seat. A 50-person Salesforce deployment costs tens of thousands a year; the same headcount on hosted SuiteCRM is £600 a year plus support. The trade is that you own the configuration, integration and administration burden that a SaaS vendor would otherwise absorb.
What is SuiteASSURED and do I need it?
It is the commercial assurance layer — warranty, indemnity and legal protections wrapped around the open-source software, from £3,350 a year including ten care hours. Small businesses do not need it. Enterprises whose procurement or legal teams scrutinise open-source licensing generally do, and for them it is the real price of SuiteCRM.
How far do ten support hours go?
Not far during a migration. At £1,200 for ten hours (£120/hour), Standard Support is a safety net for occasional questions rather than a substitute for in-house capability. Budget for internal skills or a partner relationship if the deployment is complex.
Self-host or use managed hosting?
Self-host if you have sysadmin capability and want zero recurring licence cost. Take managed hosting at £50/month if you do not — it removes upgrades, backups and security patching for less than most SaaS CRMs charge for a single user, and it is the single best-value line on this pricing page.
